30-07-2010

The Vice President, Alhaji Namadi Sambo, is to commence the inspection of power project sites at Sapele, Alaoje and Olorunsogo in the first week of August 2010 to ascertain the extent of work preparatory to their completion and commissioning before the end of the year.

It will be recalled that a committee had examined the possibility of generating 675 megawatts of electricity from the three sites, with each contributing 225 megawatts of electricity each to the national grid.

In a related development, he called for the rehabilitation and upgrading of existing major dams in the country including Shiroro, Kainji and Jebba Hydro Power Stations.

According to him, the Federal government is refocusing on the contribution of small and medium hydro power potentials in the country.
