17-07-2012

The Abia State Petroleum Monitoring Team has impounded a trailer conveying thirty three thousand liters of crude oil to a company alleged to be involved in illegal refining of the product in Umuahia.

At a news briefing, the State Commissioner for Petroleum, Chief Don Ubani said the company, Jinas Oil, which produces vegetable oil alleged to be involved in the lifting of crude oil from questionable sources.

The Chairman of the State Monitoring Team who impounded the trailer, Chief Tony Anyanwu said the arrest followed a tip off.

The Commercial Manager of the Company, Chief Jonathan Anyanwu, however, told newsmen that the crude oil was for powering the plant being used in producing vegetable oil and not for refining as alleged.

Radio Nigeria correspondent reports that further investigation has commenced on the matter.
