Reps seek Review of ICJ Judgment on Bakassi
23-07-2012

A member of the House of Representatives representing Bakassi Local Government Area of Cross River State, Elder Ekpenyong Ayi, has stressed the need for urgent review of the judgment of the International Court of Justice, which ceded Bakassi Peninsular to Cameroun.

He argued that this had become necessary in view of the plight of the affected people of Bakassi who were currently subjected to all forms of intimidation and harassment by the Cameroonian security agents.

Elder Ayi told Radio Nigeria in Abuja that in line with Article sixty-one of the International Court of Justice, it was long overdue to review the judgment which he maintained was delivered in error.

The Lawmaker explained that the culture and tradition of Bakassi people clearly differentiated them from Cameroon.

Elder Ekpeyong Ayi therefore appealed to the Federal Government and the National Assembly to compliment the campaign for the urgent review of the judgment in the interest of peaceful co-existence of the suffering people of Bakassi and the nation.
