Police Diary

Police Diary started with the news taken by the DFPRO, Mr. Yemi Ajayi. He said that the IG has released men and materials for the re-run election in Anambra state. He also said that this was done in order to combat the evil intentions of those elites hoping to use thugs and touts in illegally acquiring the votes of the masses and distort the peace of the nation.

He also said that the IG spoke with the Police Force and encourage them to boost their performance so as to reassure the people of Anambra of their security.  To this effect he also stated that a lot of underground work is in the process through which a number of culprits had been nabbed. He said that both the air wick and the marine would be involved in the re-run election process in order to ensure that peace is maintained.

The CP, Adenrele Tasheed Shinaba in charge of Antiterrorism Squard was the special guest today. He started by defining who a terrorist is: he said “A person that performs or carries out a violent act to cause death to anybody or group of people, this act is done with the purpose of intimidating a person or the government of a nation to carry out an act”.

He went on to say that the squard came into existence in 2007. He said since inception, the force can confidently boast of a lot of achievements, however not much is heard of them because it is a restricted body which is basically for the elites and emergency cases.

He said that their duties are to protect the sea ports, president, and the Central Bank.
They also handle kidnap cases and act as a check on the activities of militants in the nation as well as anything that stands as a threat to the Nigerian territorial borders.  Their duty also includes liaising with other countries on counter terrorism.

When he was asked the role the squard is playing and steps taken by the Force concerning Mutullabs issue, he was quick to say that the decision of the US against Nigeria was a little too extreme. CP Shinaba based this on the fact that Nigeria on numerous occasions have sent and lost soldiers during peace keeping missions. He also advised that Nigeria should not be judged based on the selfish interest of a few adding that the father had made a report to the US embassy, who did not act.

The lines were opened at 8:40am with the first call from Ikechi from Imo .He called  to plead with CP Tasheed  to caution and bring to order his men who stand at Iheouma junction who stop vehicles and insists on collecting money.

Mazi Omife Omife called from Enugu in affirmation that there was now security in Mbaukwu and other parts of Anambra state. Rufus called from Abuja to complain on the rampant illegal road blocks around Mpape.

CP Adenrele Tasheed responded to the issue of road blocking by his men saying that it is illegal for them to be there as their only business is only when there is an emergency or there has been an incidence of kidnap or robbery.  He gave a list of the achievements of the squad and promised to look into the extortion issue in Anambra state and bring an end to it

Gabriel called to commend the Police Force. He also wanted to know what the Force in red beret is called. CP Tasheed gave him a response that they are assigned for special duties mostly the elites.Oghene called from Uyo to commend the police and advised them to concentrate on their primary assignment and stop engaging in activities that would dent the image of the Force
